Many events took place on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Some of Pinnacle's 5th - 7th graders went to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC with Miss Laura and Ms. Bergeron. We also had two wonderful chaperons join us on the trip: Reyhan's aunt and Abdullah's sister. The main reason for this field trip was to allow the students to look a variety of art and do their art writing assignment. This marking period, students in 5th - 7th grades are required to visit an art museum in the Washington, DC area and write a one to two page essay on their favorite work of art and overall museum experience. They will also be rewarded extra credit if they include a picture of themselves jumping in front of the art museum! |

On Thursday, October 22nd Pre- K thru 3rd grade visited Cox Farm in Centreville, VA. All students, as well as parent chaperons, enjoyed doing various activities, such as, a hayride, slides, observing various animals, and watching a cow being milked! At the end of the day, the children got to take home a small pumpkin to remember Cox Farm. The children had a wonderful time experiencing Fall in its fullest, and some were not ready to leave at the end of the day! They can't wait to go back next year! |

Recently, the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades went to Washington, DC to visit the National Museum of Natural History. In my opinion this was the best field trip yet. We started in the museum by seeing the aquatic world. We saw very life like set ups of a coral reef, a giant squid, and a whale suspended from the ceiling! Following that, we examined all sorts of dinosaurs and fossils, with the adults asking the children questions about fossils at every turn. Kudos to Esref Polat for answering it all correctly! |

Recently, on November 19th, the students and faculty of Pinnacle Academy went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. We studied all sorts of airplanes, warships, and space shuttles. Among those were the Apollo 11 and The Blackbird. The Blackbird is particularly fascinating because it holds the record for speediest journey from Los Angeles to Washington DC. The Blackbird made the flight in one hour and four minutes! |

Zoo Trip Our first field trip as a school to the National Zoo proved an excellent experience. Getting the kids out of the classroom and into the world of the animals, in the heart of Washington DC, could not have been a more rewarding trip for them. As they browsed the park in groups, the kids filled out a scavenger hunt that required them to notice characteristics about each animal. They had to find animals with claws, with brown fur, with tentacles, ones that ate only fish, and other distinguishable characteristics. |
